The Lungau is a mountain bike and cycling paradise with a huge network of clearly marked paths offering the everything from a leisurely cycle alongside brooks and through forests to a greater elevation and a thrilling mountain ride guaranteed to test your endurance and get your heart racing.

The Mur bike path is particularly popular with families and stretches 365km along the second largest river in Austria.

Beginning here in the Lungau, the bike route travels through Styria and down to Bad Radkersburg on the Solvenian border in the Thermenlad region.

The route is accessible from many points only minutes from the accommodation, and can be defined by easy to medium inclines on a paved or well-compacted gravel surface.

The Grosseckbahn in Mauterndorf and the Sonnenbahn in St Michael offer mountain transport for bicycles. 

With this service so you can travel up with ease and enjoy a thrilling ride back down! Or if preferred the bikes can be brought back to the valley in the cable car.

Mountain Biking

For the adventurous biker, the Lungau features 15 optimised and mountain bike tours totalling 50km. All trails feature standardise trail markings from start to finish and offer varying levels of difficulty with refreshment opportunities located along every route.

E-Bikes

E-Bikes are very popular in the valley and open up the mountain region to everyone, making even the more difficult routes more accessible. 

Two types of E-bike are available: an E-City Bike suitable for moderate inclines and family friendly paths, and an E-Mountain Bike with which even the highest charging station at an elevation of 2,072m can be reached.

Almost 100 charging stations can be found at convenient intervals through the network. Bikes can be hired locally with guided tours available from a handful of partner buisneses.
