For those who like to absorb the history and culture of an area and witness some incredibly beautiful architecture, the Lungau will not disappoint.  Our region has no less than 4 castles, numerous magnificent pilgrimage churches, museums and fortresses.  Each town has it's own attractions.

We thoroughly recommend a visit to Castle Moosham, just a short drive or walk from Haus Bellevue.  The incredible structure has played a major part in the development of the Lungau and St Michael since the 12th Century.

Castle MauterndorfMauterndorf Castle  is open practically all year round and is host to many themed events for all ages to enjoy.  The building also boasts a fabulous restaurant with very good cuisine, which is often host to cabaret and exhibition nights.

St LeonhardIn Tamsweg you can visit the St Leonhard pilgrimage church.  Originally constructed in the mid-14th Century this impressive structure has weathered centuries of harsh Austrian weather and is under constant restoration and care.  The inside is magnificent and can leave a visitor feeling quite humbled.

Salzburg CityFurther afield, Salzburg City with it's magnificent architecture and appealing sights is well worth a visit.  Around 1 hours drive away, in a day trip to Salzburg you could visit fortresses and castles, churches and museums, take the Sound of Music tour.  If you like to shop, the Old City (Altstadt) does not disappoint and the Getreidegasse is probably one of the loveliest shopping streets in the world with a wide range of stores set behind elaborately fronted landmark buildings and in traditional passageways.

Ice Caves near SalzburgAround 70km away from the accommodation and a straight drive on the A10 Autobahn, the Eisriesenwelt offers an awesome day trip.  Located near Werfen town, this natural phenomenon formed from ice and rock is the largest known formation of ice caves on the planet and reaching over 40km into the mountainside.  The caves are open between May and October each year.

For accurate information about opening times and entrance prices (if any), check with the local tourist office or contact the sites directly.  Not all attractions are represented on the internet, however where websites are available we have included them here and on our RESOURCES page.

The Lungau tourist website is a good source of information, providing general overviews of the main attractions in the Lungau valley:
